    Tutti-Frutti Villa

    The Context

This Villa reflects our team’s ability to take an existing design direction and meaningfully enhance it through strategic adjustments, added features, and a stronger response to site situation

This five bedroom residence was built on a site of approximately 2.6 are in Padang Tawang, designed with a Mediterranean approach enriched by subtle Balinese touches. Its architectural composition brings together signature Mediterranean elements such as arches, textured walls, and bold openings, while warmer materials and tropical details create a softer, more grounded atmosphere.

The project began when the client came to us with an existing design and asked our team to develop the technical working drawings for construction. As the process moved forward, however, the project evolved beyond a simple technical translation. The design was carefully refined and adjusted to respond more closely to the site conditions and the spatial needs of the villa.

Before continuing the design process, we carried out a new topographic survey of the land. This revealed several differences between the actual site conditions and the data previously provided by client. As a result, the design was revised to ensure it aligned more accurately with the true contours and elevations of the site.

During the early development stage, several new features were introduced to enrich the overall experience of the villa. These included a jacuzzi and seating area, as well as a rooftop barbecue space with built-in seating to create a more relaxed and social outdoor setting. The sunken living area was also further developed with arched wall elements, combined with glass and stone finishes to strengthen the warm Mediterranean character of the design.

Because the initial concept felt relatively enclosed, additional windows were introduced to improve the flow of natural light throughout the interior. The balcony, which was originally quite narrow, was also expanded to create a more comfortable and well-proportioned outdoor space.

As the project progressed, the client added several new design elements. These included an infinity tempered pool, a gelam wood ceiling, a bathtub in the ground-floor bedroom, and the use of templestone on selected walls and floor areas to reinforce the villa’s natural material palette. The entrance gate was also further developed to feel more aligned with the overall architectural language of the house.

From a construction perspective, the project came with its own challenges. Access to the site was limited to a single narrow road, already surrounded by existing villas. This required the movement of materials and labor to be planned with great efficiency in order to keep the construction timeline on track.

In the end, the project became a strong example of how an initial concept can grow through collaboration, site-responsive adjustments, and thoughtful refinements made throughout the design and building process
